Hereafter, the CD/DVD for the PC-Doctor DOS is called as "PC-Doctor DOS CD". The PC-Doctor DOS CD can boot the computer disregarding the operating systems and perform diagnostic programs. For that purpose, it is necessary to have the CD/DVD writing software (with CD/DVD creation function from the ISO image file) prepared separately. Also, any one of the following types of CD-RW, CD-RW & DVD Combo, DVD, DVD Multi or other optical drives should be prepared. Results of such tests might differ from the specifications provided in the user's guide and catalog. The results vary depending on the testing method and the testing environment, and Lenovo does not guarantee these results. - You should install the CD/DVD writing software which supports CD/DVD creation function from the ISO image file to create the PC-Doctor DOS CD. - To boot the computer from the PC-Doctor DOS CD, you should have any one of the following types of optical drives. - ThinkPad internal - Ultrabay Slim installed in the ThinkPad UltraBase Any other types (USB, PC Card, CardBus PC Card, ExpressCard or others) are not supported. - The contents of the PC-Doctor DOS CD can not be shown by Windows Explorer. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CREATING THE PC-DOCTOR DOS CD This section assumes to use Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer. Downloading file 1. Click once on the underlined file name. Once this is done, some pop-up windows will appear. 2. Follow the instructions on the screen. 3. In the window to choose Run or Save, click Save. 4. Choose the folder you would like to download the file to and click Save. A different window will appear and the download will begin and complete. Once the download has completed, there may or may not be a message stating that the download completed successfully. Extracting file 5. Locate the folder where the file was downloaded. 6. Locate the file that was downloaded and double-click it. 7. Follow the instructions on the screen. 8. In the Select Destination Location window, click Next. If you would like to select a different folder, click Browse. 9. In the Ready to Install window, click Install. All the necessary files will be extracted to the folder selected in the step 8. Creating PC-Doctor DOS CD 10. Prepare a computer with an optical drive installed and a blank CD/DVD disc, and make sure the CD/DVD writing software is installed into the computer. 11. Locate the folder selected in the step 8. 12. Locate the file ending in ".ISO", then double-click it. A writing software will open. 13. Follow the instructions on the screen to finish writing and complete creating PC-Doctor DOS CD. Finally delete the file saved in the step 4. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DIAGNOSTICS PROCEDURE 1. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the target computer. 2. Make sure the computer has an optical drive installed. 3. Insert the PC-Doctor DOS CD into the optical drive and turn on the computer. 4. While either of the following messages is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F12 key. To interrupt normal startup, press the blue Access IBM button or the enter key. Press F12 to choose temporary boot device - or - Press F1 for IBM BIOS Setup Utility Press F11 to invoke the IBM Product Recovery program Press F12 to choose temporary boot device The Boot Menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 5. Press cursor keys to select either of the following devices, and press Enter. ATAPI CDx (x: 0, 1, ...) - or - CD-ROM Drive PC-Doctor DOS will start. 6. Follow the instructions on the screen. 7. After performing the diagnostics, remove the PC-Doctor DOS CD from the optical drive and turn off the computer. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LIMITATIONS - The Intel Wireless Radio test may return FAILED if the security function is enabled in the access point. - The additional hard drive may appear in the Surface Scan Hard Disk utility and the Erase Hard Drive Erase Hard Drive.
